ZalaZone: Training center of high importance

Zalaegerszeg projects cover defense, scientific research, logistics, drones and intermodality.

Developments in Zalaegerszeg will improve employment in the area, and well-trained professionals will also be needed to implement the city’s economic development strategy in effect until 2030. From the point of view of the national economy, the development of the Zalaegerszeg Vocational Training Center was declared to be of paramount importance.

The flagship projects also include the defense industry, a science park, a new business zone, and a logistics center with a container terminal and drone competence center.

Rheinmetall in Germany and ZalaZone Ipari Park Zrt. have concluded an agreement on defense industrial developments. A joint venture between Rheinmetall and the Hungarian state will build a plant for the production of combat vehicles in Zalaegerszeg from HUF 60 billion, including172 Lynx combat vehicles out of the 219 ordered by the Hungarian Defense Forces.

The Science Park project covers the activities of the ZalaZone Science and Innovation Park to create an environment where economic actors and academia can work together. The ZalaZone Research and Technology Center was inaugurated last October as the first element of the Science Park. They also laid the foundation of the research center of the Széchenyi István University and the lecture hall of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, the University of Pannonia and the Research Institute of Computer Science and Automation of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

SmartField is an integrated business zone between the ZalaZone test track and Science Park where companies offering high value-added services and products can settle.

The keyword of the fourth flagship project is intermodality, the coordination and development of road, rail and air freight operations, including support for the development of Hévíz-Balaton International Airport. 

A drone competence center may also operate in cooperation with ZalaZone to achieve spectacular, international-level industrial and scientific success in the research and development of unmanned aircraft systems.
