This year’s WIZZ Youth Challenge attracted a record number of candidates, more than 1,200 from 44 countries. Students were asked to submit and present innovative ideas that Wizz Air can use in its sustainability strategy, ensuring the airline remains the greenest in Europe.
During the contest, students demonstrated their problem-solving skills, critical thinking and insight to solve issues to real world business problems posed by Wizz Air executives.
Twenty four out of the 220 entries received invitations to the Budapest semi-finals to present their ideas to Wizz Air. The semi-final teams came from Hungary, Austria, Denmark, the UK, the Netherlands, Poland, Latvia, Switzerland, Sweden and Serbia to present their suggestions to independent professionals in panel sessions.
Four teams were eventually selected to compete in the final. Goldsmith +, a team of Hungarian students from Corvinus University and CEU, were crowned the winners with an easy-to-implement yet creative idea.
The winning idea focused around Wizz Air’s booking system offering passengers a variety of eco-friendly solutions to make their own carbon footprint carbon-neutral. The team’s idea also included launching an environmental fund and building a “Green Ambassador” team dedicated to protecting the environment and raising environmental awareness.
The lucky winners have all won unlimited travel for one year on Wizz Air’s ever-expanding network of 152 stations and more than 700 routes.
