Vaszary painting exhibit now at the Hungarian National Gallery

Never-before-seen paintings of one of the most popular painters of the 20th century, János Vaszary, are now on display at the Hungarian National Gallery (MNG).

László Baán, director general of the Museum of Fine Arts – Hungarian National Gallery, recalled that MNG had organized a major exhibition of the painter’s oeuvre in 2007.

When the planning of the New National Gallery and the National Museum Restoration and Storage Center began, two scrolls were discovered with unknown paintings by János Vaszary, Baán recalled.

The paintings thus discovered had never been reproduced anywhere, not even during Vassary’s lifetime, and were brought to the museum directly from the painter’s studio and estate. From this material, MNG is presenting 24 of the most beautiful and exciting works, the director said.

The exhibition, which will be open until January 15, 2023, will be complemented by a film on the life of János Vaszary, but the public will also be able to discover the exhibition through a series of guided tours, lectures and other activities.
