University of Szeged became the best Hungarian university in the QS World Ranking

SZTE is the best Hungarian university in this year's world ranking of the British Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the university informed MTI on Thursday.

According to the statement, the University of Szeged (SZTE) has maintained its position in an expanding international field, per the annual global ranking prepared by one of the best-known companies.

The QS World University Rankings 2023 was published on Wednesday. Compared to last year – about 800 more, 2,462 institutions were examined this year. The number of institutions included from Hungary rose from 9 to 11 this year, with the University of Debrecen ranked 651-700; Eötvös Loránd University and the University of Pécs ranked 701-750; and Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Széchenyi István University in Győr and the Hungarian University of Agricultural and Life Sciences ranked 801-1000. Corvinus University of Budapest, the University of Miskolc, Pannon University of Veszprém and the University of Óbuda were ranked 1001-1200.

Teaching at several levels, diversity of disciplines, and internationally visible publication activity are required for an institution to make the global list.

Six criteria are taken into account when ranking universities that meet these criteria: the academic recognition of the institution is weighted at 40 percent, employer feedback at 10 percent, the ratio of faculty to students at 20 percent, the citation rate of academic works at 20 percent, and the ratio of international students and international faculty to researchers at 5 percent, the statement said.
