University of Szeged and Debrecen named top Hungarian universities

A top global ranking service also included six other universities in Hungary.

According to the QS World University Rankings 2020/2021, the University of Szeged took first place in Hungary, ranking 501-510, followed closely by the University of Debrecen at 521-530. The list is led by schools in the U.S.: MIT, Stanford and Harvard.

QS, Quacquarelli Symonds, is one of the world’s most respected companies for higher education activities, published its latest top list on June 10, ranking more than 1,000 higher education institutions in 93 countries based on six criteria including:

  • evaluation of academia and employers
  • citation of scientific works 
  • proportion of lecturers to students
  • the number of foreign students and foreign teachers

Other Hungarian universities on the list are:

  • 601-650 –  Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE)
  • 651-700 – University of Pécs
  • 801-1000 – Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), Corvinus University of Budapest, Szent István University, University of Miskolc

The top 10 places are taken by American, British and Swiss universities (the full list is available here):
