Hungary will continue to support the development of large cities in rural areas in 2020 through its Modern Cities Program. Launched in 2015, the project aims to help improve the quality of life for residents in these areas via developments to the tune of HUF 4 trillion, including projects worth more than HUF 1.5 trillion implemented in towns with county rights.
The projects include economic, industrial, transport, health, educational, cultural and sports developments in 23 rural cities around the country. Last year, residents in these cities were able to benefit from such amenities as an additional theater, swimming pool, school, industrial park, health center or tourism institution. In some cases, where needed, roads and highways have also been developed.
In 2020, another 85 billion in urban development projects are expected to take place. To date, more than HUF 1.5 trillion has been paid under the Modern Cities Program, with more than HUF 1 trillion coming from domestic budget sources.
