The new Nyugati Railway Station will be an underground building
Last October, a design competition was launched for the renewal of Nyugati Railway Station and its surroundings.

The aim is to create a modern and world-class central station that will become a major hub for the international and national rail network.
Designed by Grimshaw Architects, the new building behind Eiffel Hall will be a 13-track modern railway hall with a unique roof structure, while Eiffel Hall itself will be a new community space with shops, event spaces, restaurants and cafés.
There will also be a 6-track underground railway station, which will in the future be served by the Danube railway tunnel.
By bringing the station partially underground, the surface railway area around Nyugati will be freed up, creating a green and landscaped new district.
The new park will run along Podmaniczky Street, linking City Park and the Great Boulevard as a green corridor with 17 hectares of recreation areas, playgrounds and sports fields.
The complex design competition is part of the Budapest Agglomeration Railway Strategy.
