The foundation stone of the Aquaticum Debrecen Beach was laid in the summer of 2018 and it opened its gates last weekend.
According to Gergely Gulyás, Minister of Prime Minister’s Office, there is a good chance that Debrecen will be the economic, educational and entertainment center of the cross-border region. The Aquaticum Debrecen Beach is an important part of this goal.
Lajos Kósa, Fidesz Member of Parliament for the region and former mayor of Debrecen, praised the new beach and its promenade for being a worthy addition to the city’s adventure pool and spas. He stressed that Nagyerdei is, however, not in direct competition with other sites but will bring new life to the area. Tourists can now find numerous unique attractions in the 120-kilometer radius near Hebrúszoboszló, Nyíregyháza-Sóstó and Miskolc-Tapolca.
László Papp, the mayor of Debrecen, said it was a great challenge to create such a beach right next to Hajdúszoboszló, the largest spa complex in Europe.
The new 8.5-hectare beach features 15 pools with 5,500 square meters of water, eight slides, 12-meter-high sun terraces, and a separate children’s world. Restaurants and cafes also await guests on the beachside promenade.
The value of the investment behind Aquaticum Debrecen Beach was HUF 9.5 billion, with government support of HUF 7.1 billion.
