The structure of the building has already been completed, and the outside has been painted, while work on the interior including the design of the visitor areas is currently being carried out by specialists. The exterior landscaping will begin later.
The India House will showcase the wildlife of India and Southeast Asia. Those entering will be greeted by a coastal landscape with aquariums filled with reef sharks and other exotic native marine life. There will also be a special collection of turtles.
In addition to birds and reptiles, including India’s “pet,” the snake, visitors will also be able to learn about the life of the Indian people and the country’s rich culture. India House will have a 60-seat, multi-purpose training and community space as well, and a special feed storage will accommodate the dietary needs of the 5,000 animals in the zoo.
The new attraction will serve as the breeding base for Indian rhinos currently living in the zoo’s Green Pyramid, with the animals and their catwalks visible through large windows.
The new attraction of the Nyíregyháza Zoo has been financed by the Regional and Settlement Development Operational Program. The value of development is HUF 820 million.
