Test production at Semcorp’s Debrecen plant could start in May 2023
The Chinese company will create 440 jobs in Debrecen.
The Debrecen plant is Semcorp’s first unit outside China. The plant will start production in 2023 on 97,000 square meters, with four production lines and 440 new jobs, debrecen4u.hu reported.
The Shanghai-based company is a world leader in the production of separator foils for electric car batteries, and the Debrecen plant will also produce such products.
Deputy Mayor of Debrecen Lajos Barcsa shared recent photos of the plant and announced that “according to current plans, test production on the first production lines could start in May 2023.”
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó recently said that the company has indicated its intention to substantially double the value of its investment in Debrecen, and they are in talks with the company. Semcorp’s current investment in Debrecen has received HUF 13 billion in state aid. According to Szijjártó, if an agreement can be reached, Semcorp could create significantly more jobs in Debrecen than announced, even more than 1,000.
In the Southern Economic Zone, Semcorp’s plant will be built between the Krones and Vitesco Technologies factories. The industrial park already houses the Deufol plant and the logistics center of BHS Trans Kft., as well as the Debrecen plant of EcoPro BM of South Korea, the bus factory of ITK Holding, the Chinese battery factory of CATL, and the Halms plant.
