Some of the best Advent and Christmas markets in Hungary

Magical Christmas fairs can be found in many parts of Hungary.

Advent and Christmas Market – Vörösmarty Square, Budapest

The Budapest Advent and Christmas Fair has opened at Vörösmarty Square in Budapest, MTI reported. Erzsébet Németh, deputy mayor responsible for human affairs, said that the Budapest Christmas Fair is being held within cordons and that the event is only open to visitors with a  vaccination certificate.

An Advent and Christmas Fair can be found in front of St. Stephen’s Basilica too. A photo exhibition, ice rink and selfie machine will be open every day on the square, and every afternoon from 4:30 p.m., shoppers can enjoy an artistic light show. On November 28, the first candle-lighting ceremony of Advent will take place, when the festive lights will be switched on. The event is only open to those with a vaccination certificate.

More than 200,000 lights will decorate the city center and many parts of the city,  while more than 16,000 lights will be on Debrecen’s Christmas tree standing in the main square (Kossuth square). In addition to the main square, Dósa nádor Square, Csapó Street, and Rózsa Street will also be part of the Advent season. Twenty catering outlets and almost 80 traders will welcome visitors. The open-air fair will be open to the public without the need for a vaccination certificate. From November 28, the “light tram” will also run on tram lines 1 and 2.

The “Adventi Kuckó” (Christmas House), located a few steps away from the corner of Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Street and Piac Street (in the Golden Bull Hotel building), will feature a Design Fair, a folk craft fair, and a Santa Claus Fair for children. It will also host the Debrecen Charity Board’s “Pass it on!” fundraising campaign, where donations will be accepted until December 23.

There will also be an Advent skating rink on Kossuth Square with a total of 750 square meters of ice, offering a unique experience with a 120-meter ice corridor, plus a skating rink.

The Lighthouse light art group from Debrecen will present a special visual experience as well. During the Advent period, specially programmed LED tubes mounted in a pyramid next to the Reformed Great Church will create a unique atmosphere on Kossuth Square.

The square in front of the Town Hall and the city center will be decorated with more than 12 kilometers of lights, and the area around the stalls will be illuminated by 300 square meters of light netting. This year, residents and visitors will also be able to admire all the festive lights from a 30-meter-high Ferris wheel.
