Residents of six counties can apply for installation of solar systems

The government has set an important goal for Hungary to become a climate-neutral country by 2050.

The second phase of the solar panel tender for residents was launched on Monday. Residents of six more counties — Baranya, Bács-Kiskun, Békés, Csongrád-Csanád, Somogy and Tolna — are eligible to apply for support under the tender.

The government has set an important goal for Hungary to become a climate-neutral country by 2050 by significantly increasing solar energy production and doubling its capacity in 10 years, as set out in the Climate and Nature Action Plan. This will occur with significant state support, said Attila Steiner, Minister of State for the Development of the Circular Economy, Energy and Climate Policy at the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, via a statement.

He said the target of making 90 percent of Hungary’s electricity production carbon-free by 2030 is also part of the plan.

The residential tender was launched with a budget of more than HUF 200 billion to support the installation of solar systems and batteries, the replacement of windows and doors with more efficient ones, and the modernization of heating systems.

The tender will specifically help households with lower-than-average incomes who face difficulties in switching to modern and environmentally friendly renewable energy solutions.

The maximum amount of the non-repayable grant is HUF 2.9 million gross and, including heating modernization, up to HUF 11.3 million.

To be eligible, the combined per capita income of the property owners in 2020 must not exceed HUF 4,850,000.
