LINDE, one of the largest industrial and healthcare gas producers, and MVM, one of the most important energy companies in Hungary, signed a long-term strategic framework agreement.
The document defines the directions of clean (green and blue) hydrogen projects and states that the two companies will work closely together in the future to develop and implement pilot hydrogen projects in Hungary and neighboring countries, using each other’s knowledge base and resources.
The necessary governing body has been appointed and a number of working groups are being set up to focus on the following main areas of the agreement:
• Production of carbon-free hydrogen by electrolysis using LINDE’s own technologies and MVM’s renewable energy sources
• Greening of transport by setting up hydrogen filling stations for buses, trucks, cars and trains (green hydrogen mobility)
• Joint development of electricity and (natural) gas infrastructure for the production and storage of green hydrogen, primarily via the implementation of seasonal electricity storage facilities
• Decarbonization of industrial uses (e.g., reduction of CO2 emissions from power plants)
The document was signed by Ákos Hegedüs, CEO of LINDE GÁZ Magyarország Zrt.; György Kóbor, Chairman and CEO of MVM Zrt.; and Zsolt Bertalan, Group-level Technology and Innovation Director of MVM Zrt.
The ceremony took place at the country’s first mobile hydrogen filling station, which was handed over at the LINDE site in Budapest at the end of April.
LINDE’s nearly 100 years of hydrogen technology know-how and experience ensure that we use state-of-the-art and the safest solutions in the production, storage, transport and use of hydrogen. The launch of carbon-neutral, green projects is a common goal for all of us. We are in a historic process and are proud to play a key role in the gradual transition to a more sustainable energy economy and to be a strategic partner of MVM Group, one of the most important energy groups in the region., Ákos Hegedűs, CEO of LINDE GÁZ Magyarország Zrt., said.
The MVM Group is a leader in energy innovation and the development of energy-related technologies. We are pleased to be involved in this forward-looking and strategically important work. I am confident that our knowledge and expertise in carbon-neutral energy production and carbon-free transport, together with LINDE Group’s serious experience in hydrogen technology, will bring a strong synergy and guarantee the spread of pure hydrogen in Hungary, György Kóbor, President and CEO of MVM Zrt, added.
