Novel sailing sprint race to be held in Alsóörs in June

Sailing CapeCup will be held between June 16 and 19 in Alsóörs as part of the BalatonGreen Festival.

András Hoppál, chairman of the event’s organizing committee, said that the idea to bring sailing closer to the spectators came from the air race competition for aerobatic pilots.

The BalatonGreen Cultural Festival-GastroShow and Expo will be held for the first time this year in Alsóörs. In parallel, the Sailing CapeCup, a Hungarian-developed international racing series, will be held on the Balaton.

Cameras will allow the audience to see all the action on the course up close. “Viewers will get a sense of just how exciting sailing races can really be from the inside. This is the experience that the Sailing CapeCup series will bring to life from 2022 onwards,” Hoppál said.

Mayor of Alsóörs Zsolt Hebling pointed out that Alsóörs is a sport-friendly and hospitable municipality. Sport, tourism, gastronomy and environmental awareness will be present together, so this will be a unique event and I am sure it will grow from year to year, Hebling added.

Anna Ilyésné Fetter, Head of the Department of the National Climate Protection Authority, said that the commitment of the BalatonGreen Festival is exemplary, as the exhibition, gastronomy and Balaton Wine Show are all following a green approach and convey the message of sustainable development in the region.

She stressed that the government is also committed to climate and nature protection and is happy to continue the work it has started. This is particularly true for raising environmental awareness, which these two events will help to promote.
