New funding system for higher education

The government will introduce a new funding structure for Hungarian higher education that will be based on three pillars.

The new funding structure starting in September will be based on three pillars, taking into account the differences in higher-education activity, Minister of Innovation and Technology László Palkovics said on Monday.

Palkovics was speaking at an event of the Department and Clinic of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine. He stressed that the new higher education funding system will not only reimburse the costs of education in proportion to the number of students, but research activities and infrastructure maintenance will also be funded separately.

These three items will be financed under a long-term contract to make Hungarian higher-education institutions more competitive, the minister said.
