According to plans, a wooded area with a promenade would cover several square kilometers, connecting the facilities along the shore of Lake Balaton in Keszthely.
The government will provide HUF 400 million for the preparation and planning, said Jenő Manninger, the parliamentary representative of the city and its region. The expected investment for the year-round recreation center will be about HUF 5 billion, he added.
Ideas on how to best use the area of the city and beach are already being collected, with those involved hoping to make Keszthely a year-round tourist destination.
Mayor Bálint Nagy added that members of the Hungarian Academy of Arts and doctoral students at the Budapest University of Technology are preparing architectural proposals, but they are also interested in the opinions of Keszthely residents and non-governmental organizations.
Construction should start in 2022.
