MTV European Music Awards: One billion people might be watching Budapest

It is a historic success for Hungary and Budapest to host the MTV Europe Music Awards.

Until now, the region has never hosted this world-famous event, but on November 8, 2020, Budapest could attract the attention of up to a billion people. The MTV EMA 2020 Show will take place via a virtual show in Budapest and London. The broadcast will come from four iconic locations in Hungary, the Hungarian Tourism Agency announced.

According to government spokesman Alexandra Szentkirályi, it is a huge opportunity for Hungary and Budapest to become one of the next stations of the MTV EMA, one of the largest and most-watched music award ceremonies in the world. Szentkirályi added that organizing such a large-scale global event would be a major advantage not only for Budapest but also for Hungary in the soon-to-resume competition for international tourists.

The music event, which has been broadcast every year since 1994 in other major European cities, has a huge promotional value. Viewers will be able to see four wonderful venues in Hungary on MTV Europe and all MTV channels — including online broadcasts.

In all television and online appearances related to the event, the iconic venues of Budapest will be given a central place, reaching one billion viewers in nearly 200 countries, said Zoltán Guller, CEO of the Hungarian Tourism Agency,.

The Hungarian Tourism Association Foundation (MTÜ) submitted an application in 2019, and the Government of Hungary is providing support for the event through the Hungarian Tourism Agency.
