Applications for next year’s Leadership Research Excellence Program are open until February 16, 2021, Secretary of State Tamás Schanda announced.
The coronavirus epidemic has highlighted the need to apply the results of scientific research as effectively as possible in almost every segment of the economy. So, the Hungarian government is committed to supporting Hungarian researchers in all fields, the state secretary said.
With the support of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, the tender, managed by the National Office for Research, Development and Innovation (NKFIH), will be launched without any thematic restrictions.
From the five-year, HUF 3 billion budget of the program, HUF 600 million will be available next year and will provide 10-12 winners with up to HUF 300 million of non-refundable support per project.
The Leadership Research Excellence Program provides significant support to scientists who wish to carry out their research in Hungary.
The call for proposals is open to exploratory research projects, without thematic limitation, provided the applicant’s previous scientific biography and research plan are in line with the call.
Applicants who have achieved outstanding international scientific results in the last 10 years and have a realistic chance of achieving such performance in the next 10 years are eligible for the grant.
Applicants’ scientific achievement is determined by whether or not the applicant has successfully completed or will complete a research project supported by the European Research Council (ERC) in a specific category between January 2018 and October 2021, or if the applicant has achieved an appropriate professional review in one of these categories but did not ultimately receive funding due to lack of resources, the ministry said.
