Katalin Karikó receives the 2021 Golden Plate Award

Four Nobel Prize-winning scientists recommended Katalin Karikó as a recipient of the award.

The University of Szeged told MTI that the award from the Academy of Achievement, a non-profit educational organization, was received by Katalin Karikó, a biochemist and research professor at the University of Szeged, adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania and senior vice-president of BioNTech, at a gala dinner held at the Bel Air Hotel in Los Angeles on December 23.

The Golden Plate Awards are presented in five categories: arts, public service, science and discovery, business, and sports. 

Previous recipients of the prestigious award include film director Steven Spielberg, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mikhail Gorbachev, nuclear physicist Ede Teller, co-founder of Microsoft Corporation Bill Gates, and professional basketball player Michael Jordan.

Four Nobel Prize-winning scientists — Frances Hamilton Arnold, Jennifer Anne Doudna, Robert Joseph Lefkowitz and James Patrick Allison — recommended Katalin Karikó for receiving the  2021 Golden Plate Award.
