Hungary’s fashion and design industry in focus

A national and international mentoring program has been launched in the field of fashion and design which aims to support the creation of stable Hungarian brands.

With the help of the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (MDDÜ), which works for the development of the domestic fashion and design sector, approximately 153 Hungarian brands participated in eight international and 18 domestic professional events last year.

Eighty national and international professionals participated in the educational programs organized by the agency, and in 2019 more than 30 brands took part in the initiative. Last year, MDDÜ organized and coordinated a total of 26 national and international events, 83 fashion and 70 design brands participated in the events which reached some 12,000 visitors.

According to experts, a successful foreign presence requires at least three appearances at a highly-qualified event, so the agency created the Budapest Select umbrella brand to help identify Hungarian products more easily.

In line with their strategic goals, in March 2019, Hiventures venture capital fund manager and MDDÜ entered into a strategic agreement aimed at boosting the Hungarian fashion and design industry and developing a value-creating domestic fashion and design startup ecosystem. 

Within the framework of this cooperation, a national and international mentoring program has been launched in the field of fashion and design which aims to support the creation of stable Hungarian brands, to improve the business knowledge of designers, and to achieve long-term success in the international market.
