Hungary has repaid USD 430 million dollars in 2021

Hungary's financial stability has been strengthened.

Hungary has repaid USD 430 million in debt this year, the Finance Minister said in a video posted on Facebook on Thursday.

Finance Minister Mihály Varga said in the video that Hungary has repaid USD 430 million in debt this year. With this move, foreign currency bonds with short maturities were bought back, replacing them with longer-maturity bonds that have more favorable interest rates.

He stressed that this has saved the country almost HUF 10 billion, improved the maturity of public debt and strengthened Hungary’s financial stability.

“Even after a crisis, Hungary is able to repay its debt not only on time, but also before maturity,” the minister said, adding that this is one of the reasons why Hungary is able to end the year being rated as “recommended for investment” by all three global credit rating agencies.
