Hungary has made part of its strategic reserves available for domestic use
Hungary's fuel supply is secured.
Similar to Austria, Hungary will make part of its strategic reserves available for domestic use, thus ensuring Hungary’s fuel supply despite the longer-than-planned shutdown of the refinery in Schwechat, Minister of Technology and Industry László Palkovics announced on Saturday.
According to the ministry, Hungary is releasing part of the country’s strategic petrol and diesel reserves to secure domestic fuel supplies. It was stressed that despite the breakdown of OMV’s Austria refinery, fuel supplies were guaranteed in Hungary.
The government’s priority is to ensure that the population and the economy have access to affordable fuel at all times. Hungarians presently pay the lowest price for fuel in Europe, thanks to the fuel price freeze introduced in November last year, the statement said.
