Hungarian university ideas can conquer the world

The success of the Hungarian Startup University Program (HSUP) is demonstrated by the fact that 6,000 students have participated in it so far.

László György, minister of state for innovation, higher education, vocational training and enterprise development at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, said that they are working to help creative students turn their innovative ideas into reality.

Hungary’s first higher-education startup program was launched in 2020 at 21 universities, at the initiative of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NRDI Office). After the pilot year, the first academic year of the program continued with the support of the Express Innovation Agency, an agency of the NRDI Office.

The main objective of the Hungarian Startup University Program (HSUP) is to familiarize Hungarian students with the world of innovation, modern entrepreneurship and startups, through a new common e-learning platform.

After learning about the innovative mindset and the startup world in the first semester, students will take an exam and produce a short paper on their entrepreneurial idea. A panel of innovation experts from each university will then select the best ones.

In the second semester, students will acquire practical knowledge of enterprise-building and will join the winning projects in teams of 3-5 people, with the help of mentors, to implement their ideas. Students working in a project team will receive a scholarship of HUF 150,000 per student per month during this phase.

The success of HSUP is demonstrated by the fact that 6,000 students have participated in it so far.

The success of the program at home and abroad speaks for itself, as the satisfaction of this year’s participants is outstanding, despite the doubling of the number of participants, said Krisztián Kölkedi, deputy chief executive officer of Express Innovation Agency and one of the founders of the HSUP program.

The HSUP Demo Day in Kápolnásnyék, which is a side event of the EFOTT festival, is now presenting the project teams.

After Demo Day, Express Innovation Agency will be present at EFOTT with a unique installation and exciting activities to introduce young people to HSUP’s professional program to encourage youth innovation and further support opportunities.
