Hungarian State Opera to broadcast The Nutcracker for free

It has also produced a Christmas video and announced a competition.

With the voluntary participation of its leading soloists, the Hungarian State Opera has produced a Christmas video clip for its version of Adolphe Adam’s Christmas song “Cantique de Noël” (“O Holy Night”), the theater told MTI.

The Christmas carol was written in 1847 and is today known in many versions. The Hungarian State Opera has published its own version arranged by Zoltán Kovács, former keyboard player of Djabe, with Hungarian lyrics by Szilveszter Ókovács. The video clip features the orchestra, choir and children’s choir of the Hungarian State Opera conducted by Music Director Balázs Kocsár, as well as the Hungarian National Ballet and the Opera’s administration. The musical short film gives an insight into the Opera House under renovation.

In parallel with the release of the video, anyone who wishes to sing the new version of Adolphe Adam’s Christmas song can send it to jatek@opera.hu by 3 January 3, 2022, and win entry to the public rehearsal of the performance.

Another Christmas gift from the Opera is to make the recording of the ballet production The Nutcracker, recorded at the Opera House in 2016, available free of charge from 4 p.m. on December 24 until midnight on December 26.
