Hungarian Defense Minister to speed up reinforcement of the army

In addition to technical improvements, increasing the size of the armed forces is also a key issue.

Minister of Defense Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky spoke on Monday in Tata, at the barracks of the 25th Klapka György Rifle Brigade of the Hungarian Army, about the acceleration of the development of the armed forces.

The minister stressed that thanks to the government’s force development program, large-scale building renovation and other infrastructure improvements are underway at several sites, including the Tata barracks.

The defense fund set up by the government will allow the program to continue more vigorously than before, despite war inflation and global economic difficulties, the minister said.

He added that 44 new Leopard 2A7 battle tanks will be delivered to Tata, with the first vehicle expected to arrive in June 2023 and the rest between 2023 and 2025. The first of the long-awaited 24 PzH 2000 self-propelled guns will arrive this year.

A modern army is inconceivable without a strong, effective armored force. In the right force structure, armored and mechanized elements are indispensable factors for success, the politician underlined.

The minister said that technical improvements alone are not worth much, they also need well-prepared, trained and respected soldiers. This is why the recently voted pay rise, the biggest pay increase in decades, was necessary.
