Last year, while the world economy collapsed, Hungarian exports exceeded EUR 100 billion, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said.
The minister said at a recent award ceremony of Dr. Bata Zrt. that Hungary ranks 94th in the world according to its population, yet it ranks 34th in terms of export performance.
According to Szijjártó, the country has reached the upper limit of its export performance and further progress is conceivable only if Hungarian companies producing for export can physically get closer to their markets and at least partially outsource their production. This will hopefully lead to another increase in exports, and the government wants to support this process, he added.
