Hungarian and Chinese companies jointly develop Záhony and its region
A cooperation agreement was signed by MÁV-REC Ltd. and China Railway Signal & Communication Co.Ltd. (CRSC).
Under the leadership of MÁV-REC Kft., a consortium called Záhony Logistics and Industrial Zone was formed on June 23, 2020, the other member of which is Záhony Port Zrt.
The purpose of the consortium is to prepare and implement an innovative logistics, rail and freight node as part of the Belt and Road initiative of the Chinese government. The project entails technological and industrial development, which will have a significant impact on rail freight traffic between the EU and China and also on Hungarian-Chinese economic cooperation.
The bilateral cooperation between the governments of Hungary and China is currently excellent, and both countries have done much in recent years to deepen the “One Belt One Road” initiative, which also provides a framework for the promotion of the CELIZ project.
CELIZ aims to modernize the railway infrastructure in Eastern Hungary and is supported by both the Hungarian and Chinese governments. The Belt and Road Promotion Center of the China National Development Commission has even added it to its list of “priority cooperation projects.”
China Railway Signal & Communication Co.Ltd. (CRSC) will contribute to the implementation of the CELIZ project in the field of railway equipment, and MÁV-REC will see what other opportunities exist in the region. CELIZ can become a model for cooperation between the two countries and will greatly contribute to the quality development of rail freight traffic between China and the Central and Eastern European region.
The Chinese company CRSC was founded in 1953 and has become a world-renowned player in railway control and monitoring systems in recent decades. The company has been involved in a number of major Chinese railway development investments, such as the development of high-speed rail lines between Beijing and Tianjin as well as Beijing and Shanghai. It has also constructed 100 metro lines for more than 20 cities.
CRSC has additionally participated in several international assignments in Asia and South America and has been an important partner in the construction of the Serbian section of the Budapest-Belgrade railway project.
