Hungarian agriculture could get a boost from uni innovations

NAK TechLab is looking for solutions to problems in agriculture as part of a university brainstorming competition.

The competition is open to teams of students who have innovative ideas and effective solutions  that can respond to real market problems in agriculture today.

The goal of the multi-program innovation cooperation, launched last year by the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) and Design Terminal, is to find the best and latest solutions in agriculture for the competitiveness of Hungarian farmers over the long term.

The competition will be held in August and aims to explore untapped opportunities in agriculture, as well as make agriculture more attractive to young people. The challenge is to get the younger generation to realize that the domestic agricultural sector is ready to embrace tech solutions and thus encourage them to start working in this field and formulate and implement innovative ideas.

Ideas are welcome for technological solutions and ideas applicable to the food industry, arable land, animal husbandry, forestry, horticulture, orchards and water management and irrigation.

University teams of two to four people may apply. The selected competitors will receive online professional help from mentors who are experts in business development and agriculture before the final.

A jury will judge all finalists on August 13, 2020, at the Budapest headquarters of the National Chamber of Agriculture.

Participants will receive professional experience, a valuable network of contacts and opportunities for development as well as the chance to win several prizes. The winning team will receive a DJI drone and additional professional consultation to improve its development; it will also be able to participate in an international innovation festival.
