The Ministry for Innovation and Technology’s Deputy Minister and Parliamentary and Strategic State Secretary Tamás Schanda declared that the renewed program named “2020 Thematic Program of Excellence” continues to support efficient R&D and innovation work at universities and public research institutes.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that it was particularly important that internationally competitive and commercially exploitable research should be carried out in areas based on the scientific excellence of traditional knowledge centers in Hungary.
The support will help further improve the conditions for research at higher education institutions and public research institutes, broaden the supply of researchers, and expand the institutions’ foreign relations.
This year’s call combines the Higher Education Institutional Excellence Program 2018-2019 and the 2019 Thematic Excellence Program. Thus, the new scheme announced for 2020 is open to institutions and thematic research that have already received funding in one of the programs from 2018 and 2019.
HUF 43.9 billion will be allocated this year, and the National Office for Research, Development and Innovation will notify those institutions that qualify for support.
