The House of Hungarian Music first won the Best Public Building Award in Europe in October, which meant it could compete against winning buildings from 10 of the world’s regions, and went on to win the “Best International Public Building” award.
Benedek Gyorgyevics, CEO of Városliget Zrt., who is responsible for the implementation of the Liget Budapest project, received the award at a ceremony held in London at the Savoy Hotel.
Gyorgyevics said that with this award, along with last year’s award for the Ethnographic Museum, there are now two buildings in City Park that are recognized as the best in the world and “every Hungarian can be proud” of this accomplishment.
Attila Sághi, deputy director of the company, said the House of Hungarian Music is “expected to become one of Budapest’s iconic buildings.”
Designed by Japanese architect Sou Fujimoto, the House of Hungarian Music is scheduled to open at the end of 2021, although the structure of the building is to be completed within the next eight months.
