FM Szijjártó: Debrecen is the best example of the meeting of Eastern and Western companies

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó visited Debrecen on the occasion of the investment of Hajdúhús 2000 Kft.

According to Péter Szijjártó, COVID-19 and the war have both had a dramatic impact on supply and food security, as even in Western European news reports, we could see empty shelves and long queues.

“When two countries that were the world’s breadbaskets go to war, it puts the food supply of hundreds of millions of people at risk,” he stressed.

The minister stressed that self-sufficiency means security, which is why investments such as the investment of Hajdúhús should be welcomed. He stressed that the government’s aim is not to finance unemployment but to prevent it.

Investments and capacity expansion in 2020-2021 account for a good part of the current economic growth achieved by Hungarian companies under COVID-19.  Investment should be supported because it is necessary for a country to maintain its economic growth path, the minister said.

Keeping the economy on a growth path is possible by supporting investment, which is why the economic process taking place in Debrecen is important; these new capacities will contribute to the Hungarian economy’s numbers going up instead of down, he added.

The minister also pointed out that the economic success of Hungary is largely due to the fact that large Western and Eastern companies meet here.

“Debrecen is a prime example of this, as one of the biggest German premium car brands and the world’s largest Chinese battery factory are being built there,” he added
