Export surplus hit EUR 849 million

Minister of Foreign affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó recently announced that Hungarian exports expanded to over EUR 100 billion and exports as a share of GDP ranked 11th globally.

In February, the value of exports in euros increased by 1.9 percent and imports by 5.3 percent. Total assets were EUR 849 million, EUR 262 million less than in February last year, the Central Statistical Office (CSO) reported on Thursday based on its second estimate.

Compared to January, the seasonally and working-day adjusted volume of exports increased by 1.7 percent, and that of imports by 5.3 percent. Compared to a year earlier, this means there was an increase of 2.9 percent in exports and 6.4 percent in imports.

The level of foreign trade in goods, measured in HUF, increased by 5.1 percent for both imports and exports compared to the same month of the previous year.

In the first two months of the year, exports in euros were 1.6 percent lower and imports 2.8 percent lower than a year earlier, while the export surplus of EUR 1.7 billion was EUR 181 higher than last year.
