Briefing notes

Energy dependency in Hungary has decreased significantly

Hungary's energy dependency has decreased significantly in recent period.

In his opening speech at the 52nd International Gas Conference on Tuesday, Minister of Technology and Industry László Palkovics added that 10 years ago Hungary had only two gas transmission points. Today, only the transmission and receipt of gas to Slovenia is not functioning, although the infrastructure is in place for this.

Now, there is less gas coming from the north and the east, but long-term gas purchase contracts and market conditions allow us to get the gas we need, he said.

He said that as of Monday morning, domestic gas storage reserves were 72 percent full.
