Legislation came into force on January 1, 2022, to allow companies to offer their employees the private use of their electric bicycles tax-free.
In addition, employees will be able to claim e-bikes themselves if their company includes this as an optional cafeteria benefit. Under the amendment, companies can provide their employees with tax-free electric motor-assisted bicycles with a maximum power of 300 watts.
Environmental awareness and sustainability are high on the list of legislative objectives.
Even before the pandemic, Hungary already ranked highly in the European Union in terms of bicycle use. Hungary was named as the third most cycling-friendly nation in the EU behind the Netherlands and Denmark, according to a Eurobarometer survey.
