Christmas markets on Vörösmarty Square and Szent István Square open on Friday
The Advent Basilica was chosen as Europe's best Christmas market for the second time last year.
The Advent Basilica will welcome visitors with a massive Christmas tree, light art, a selfie point, an ice rink, and quality craft and gastronomy exhibitors in St. Stephen’s Basilica Square, the organizers told MTI.
According to their statement, the event will host around 120 domestic exhibitors with a variety of street food and barbeque dishes, as well as dishes from the Hungarian speakeasy culture.
The atmosphere of the fair will also be enhanced by handicraft exhibitors, and there will be projected light art on the façade of the Basilica as well. A 12-meter Christmas tree will be placed in the central part of the fair, and there will also be a free skating rink for children, with skate rentals and skating lessons.
In the Advent Basilica, master blacksmiths will demonstrate their skills in the workshop, and a photo exhibition, “Advent Anno,” in collaboration with Fortepan, will decorate the outside of the pavilions.
The Christmas market on Vörösmarty Square will have a new look and a new name, “Vörösmarty Classic Xmas.”
From Váci Street, a grand Christmas tree will greet the festive crowds on Vörösmarty Square, which will be decorated in green and red. A highlight of the fair will be the giant Christmas tree decorations on Harisnyaház (“Stocking House”), and a new cover for the Vörösmarty statue will be unveiled, with poems in Hungarian, German and English.
The free Christmas railway will be a popular attraction in the square, where passengers will also be able to admire the festive decoration of the Lion Fountain.
The gastronomic exhibitors will offer traditional Hungarian food and drink, and the handicraft vendors will also be selling a selection of traditional products.
The Advent Basilica will be open until January 1, and Vörösmarty Classic Xmas until December 31.
