Pannonpharma Kft. is building new capacities in Pécsvárad for the production of anti-coronavirus drugs using HUF 1.6 billion of government support. The project was implemented under the Healthcare Industry Support Program, Minister of Finance Mihály Varga said on Thursday.
The minister emphasized that the number of healthcare products that can be produced in Hungary continues to grow.
One of the manufacturer’s developments, the active ingredient in the Egiferon gel (interferon), is able to activate the immune system suppressed by the coronavirus, so it works effectively against COVID-19. Another development, this ingredient in capsule form, kills the coronavirus inside the gastrointestinal tract.
According to Varga, the series of developments in healthcare has already had tangible results.
So far, 31 supported investments have been implemented, with a total value of HUF 37 billion. The program will implement a total of 82 healthcare developments with a total value of HUF 86 billion, he said, adding that the number of jobs protected could reach 5,700.
These developments will make a significant contribution not only to Hungary’s self-sufficiency, but also to the relaunch of the economy, the minister pointed out.
