On May 15-16, 2020, the Hungarian National Museum would have held its 25th Museum May Festival in the Museum Garden, but this will only take place virtually this year.
The event is a favorite with locals and tourists alike every year, with hundreds of thousands of people showing up to museums for their tours and exhibits as well as concerts in the Museum Garden.
Hungarian museums have traditionally used this day to show off their diversity in terms of art and even scientific research and are known for their enriching and fun programs.
This year, however, due to the coronavirus epidemic, the festival is taking a slightly different format. The Hungarian National Museum has set up the Facebook group “25th Anniversary of Museums” to celebrate the occasion.
Both museums and past visitors are invited to share their memories via the hashtag #muzeumokmajalisa. People can submit photos of exhibits and concerts from recent years that had the greatest impact on them or that they simply loved. Organizers and visitors alike can also share these memories online on World Museum Day, which takes place May 18.
