The International Swimming Federation (FINA, Fédération Internationale de Natation) has been organizing the World Aquatics Championships since 1973, with Hungary hosting the event again in 2022 after 2017.
From the 17th of June to the 3rd of July 2022, Budapest will co-host the World Aquatics Championships with three cities in the countryside, Szeged, Debrecen, and Sopron.
Nearly 2,300 athletes in five sports will be able to show their skills in several venues, including the Debrecen Sports Hall for the water polo group matches.
Swimming and diving will be held in the Duna Arena, open water swimming at Lake Lupa, diving at the Széchy Tamás pool of the Hajós Alfréd National Sports Center in Budapest, and water polo group matches will be held in Budapest, Szeged, Debrecen and Sopron.
The water polo finals will be played in the capital.
